Fernando Martinez is Topps Red Hot Rookie #1
The youngest player in Major League Baseball is the first subject in Topps’ Red Hot Rookie Redemption program for 2009.
Similar to the redemption cards Topps has been inserting into Finest Baseball for several years, the Red Hot Rookie exchange cards were cooked up for Topps Series 2 Baseball last season. There are 10 cards in all, each of which can be redeemed for a different player who makes his big league debut during the 2009 season, with Topps announcing the subjects one at a time as the year progresses.
Martinez just played his first game for New York earlier this week, and Topps wasted no time announcing him as the subject for card No. 1. The 20-year old outfielder has been at the top of the organization’s list of prospects for several years, and he’s already popular with Mets collectors thanks to appearances in several Bowman products.
The Red Hot Rookie Redemption cards can be found one per Topps Series 2 Baseball hobby box, and they can be redeemed by entering a code online at the Topps website .
